November 12th, 2019!

Hi everyone,

What a wonderful day we had today! We got to go to the Learning Commons with Mrs. Laythorpe, we painted, we built, and even had centers!

We are doing lots of work around emotions in Kindergarten - we are trying to identify what emotions we are experiencing, and discuss how we can work with those feelings. To help us work through or emotions, we are connecting them together with colour. For example, my happy colours are gold and bubblegum pink and my calm colours are blue and green! We have read these stories about emotions:

To go along with this learning we have been doing, we will be creating our own colour/emotion monsters. Today we completed the beginning stages of our monster thinking/creating by building monsters our of various materials! We also discussed what emotions we could feel (we came up with sad, confused, happy, excited, angry, happy, relaxed, brave, loving, and more) and how we might look/act if we were feeling those things.

We also painted the background, which we will draw and cut our monster out of tomorrow (here is an example of a completed colour monster, as well as some of the process of our painting today)! Ask your child what colours they chose and what emotion they relate those colours to.

Thursday this week, we will be having a lockdown practice - we have discussed this as a class already and will practice (before the whole school practice on Thursday) as a class tomorrow.

We are still in need of one more volunteer for our field trip on November 29th, if you are available and have your volunteer clearance, please contact me!

Nothing in the blue folders today, but a few things will be sent home tomorrow.

Thanks for reading this long blog, it was such a great day,

Ms. Brinson
